Patrick Gausi

Patrick is a seasoned healthcare quality and patient safety professional with over five years’ experience driving quality improvement, operational excellence, and accreditation readiness across hospital and health system settings in Southern Africa.

He currently serves as Quality & Operations Director at Blantyre Adventist Hospital, a role he has held since 2020. During this time, he led the establishment of the hospital’s quality management system from the ground up—developing governance structures, forming and training quality, safety, and infection prevention committees, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement. Under his leadership, the hospital successfully implemented COHSASA standards and recently achieved accreditation.

In 2023, he was appointed by the Malawi Ministry of Health as a National Quality Improvement Assessor and Mentor, supporting hospitals nationwide through assessments against national quality standards and providing mentorship for service improvement. He also contributes at a national level to quality initiatives, including the development of Malawi’s Patient Safety Curriculum.

Expanding his regional impact, he was appointed in 2024 as Quality Control and Patient Safety Coordinator for the Southern Africa Indian Ocean Division (SID) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In this role, he oversees quality and patient safety initiatives across Adventist hospitals in more than 15 countries and territories, with headquarters based in Pretoria, South Africa.

He holds an MSc in Healthcare Management, a BSc in Medical Laboratory Science, and a Certificate in Quality Management Systems (QMS), and is currently completing an MBA in Quality Management. He is also an ISQua Fellow, reflecting his commitment to global best practice in healthcare quality and safety.
