Dr Karen Nel is an ICU-specialised Registered Nurse and a professional business consultant in management, business, and healthcare. As an entrepreneur, she opened an outbound call centre and sold it to a listed company. She also presented more than 80 Business Acumen Simulations and more than 60 Interpersonal Effectiveness Programs nationally and internationally. She was a guest speaker at Mauritius’s “Agile Leadership and Digital Transformation” conference and has done Business Process Re-engineering in retail, law, and healthcare. She holds an MBA (elective: Healthcare) and PhD from Wits Business School with the topic: “COMBINING COMPLEXITY LEADERSHIP WITH OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES FOR ADAPTABILITY IN SOUTH AFRICAN PRIVATE HOSPITALS.”
Dr Karen is passionate about leadership and realises the impact of inspirational leadership on positioning organisations functioning in disrupted industries for adaptability. She focuses on creating adaptive spaces that are inspirational and empowering, impacting team members positively while increasing the bottom line. Dr Karen believes and lives by the principle that you can only achieve business success through people. She is excited about the impact her PhD study has on public and private healthcare leadership. Dr Karen developed an applied business simulation program aligned with the study’s recommendations in teaching healthcare managers the principles of business acumen in a clinical setting.
